Fido’s New Year’s Resolutions

January 01, 2022

Happy New Year! Are you making resolutions this year? If so, your pooch will be right there with you, cheering you on with tail wags and happy dances. In fact, Fido has a few goals of his own … and they’re pretty adorable. A Seminole, FL vet lists some of them below.

Score More Bacon

No surprises here. If Fido could list his favorite things ever, treats (and bacon) would probably be pretty high up on the list. Snacks are fine, but be careful not to go overboard. You aren’t doing your canine buddy any favors by overfeeding him!

Catch That Squirrel

Even if Fido is a couch potato, he’ll still retain many instinctive behaviors from his ancestors, who ran wild and hunted their dinners. You’ll definitely see this in action when your furry friend spots a squirrel. Fido may not have much luck in catching his fluffy little nemesis, but he’ll enjoy trying. Take him to some parks and trails this year.

Avoid Baths

Sorry, buddy: they really are for your own good.

Sniff All The Bushes

Dogs are very curious, and they’re always interested in investigating their surroundings. Fido’s cute nose plays a huge role here. He can gather all sorts of information from smelling things. This provides him with beneficial mental stimulation. Let your pooch indulge his nose from time to time. Man’s Best Friend can be a great reminder of the importance of stopping to smell the roses.

Be A Good Boy

Our canine pals really strive to please their humans. Fido is extra cute when he’s proud of himself! Remember to praise and reward him for behaving properly.

Learn Something New

Mastering a new trick or command is a great confidence booster for dogs. If Fido hasn’t gotten the basics down, work on these first. Otherwise, show him some cute tricks.

Spend Time With The Human

Dogs’ loyalty is one of their most outstanding qualities. Fido really just wants to be with you, whether he’s napping at your feet or accompanying you on car rides around town. Carve out plenty of quality time for him this year. You may find that the time you spend walking and playing with your furry best friend are great for you as well.

Happy New Year! As your Seminole, FL veterinary clinic, we look forward to offering your pet excellent care in 2022 and beyond.
